L Shape Box Apparatus is a precision test device designed to evaluate the passing ability and flow behavior of self-compacting concrete (SCC) through narrow openings and reinforcement-like obstacles under standardized conditions.
L Shape Box Apparatus is a rigid test device designed to evaluate the flow behavior of self-compacting concrete (SCC) through narrow openings and reinforcement-like obstacles under standard-compliant conditions. The one-piece, leak-proof L-shaped chamber consists of a vertical column, a quick-release sliding gate, and the smooth steel bars positioned along the horizontal section. The apparatus is manufactured from high-strength stainless steel, ensuring no deformation or surface wear during testing. It consists of two compartments: a vertical chamber where concrete is placed, and a horizontal channel where flow occurs. These two compartments are separated by a row of vertical bars at the base. The bars are made of 16 mm-diameter steel and spaced at 41 ± 1 mm. This arrangement simulates the concrete’s ability to flow through reinforcement. During the test, concrete is poured into the vertical section of the L-shaped box and leveled. When the gate is opened, the concrete flows into the horizontal section under its own weight. When the leading edge of the concrete stops, the concrete height at the entrance and exit of the horizontal section is measured. The ratio of these two heights is defined as the L-h (H₂/H₁) value of the concrete. This ratio indicates the passing ability of the concrete.
