Basado en el principio de sedimentaci\u00f3n, este m\u00e9todo mide la velocidad de sedimentaci\u00f3n de las part\u00edculas de suelo suspendidas en agua para evaluar la distribuci\u00f3n de fracciones muy finas. Mediante c\u00e1lculos derivados de la ley de Stokes, se correlacionan el di\u00e1metro de las part\u00edculas y el porcentaje de masa, lo que permite una clasificaci\u00f3n detallada de las fracciones de arena, limo y arcilla. El sistema incluye un hidr\u00f3metro 151H o 152H, seis cilindros de sedimentaci\u00f3n de vidrio de 1000 ml, un ba\u00f1o de agua con control de temperatura, una bomba de circulaci\u00f3n, un mezclador de alta velocidad, hexametafosfato de sodio y un vaso de precipitados de vidrio. La mezcladora de alta velocidad y el hexametafosfato de sodio garantizan la dispersi\u00f3n de las part\u00edculas de suelo en una suspensi\u00f3n homog\u00e9nea. El ba\u00f1o de agua con control de temperatura estabiliza la viscosidad del l\u00edquido durante toda la prueba, lo que mejora la repetibilidad.
