Automatic Vicat Apparatus is a fully automated system that measures cement, mortar, and gypsum setting times and consistency with high precision by digitally recording needle penetration depth over time, ensuring repeatable, real-time, and operator-independent results.
Automatic Vicat Apparatus is a fully automated testing system designed to determine the initial and final setting times and standard consistency periods of cement, mortar, and gypsum-based materials with high accuracy. The device preserves all the principles of the manual Vicat test while fully automating the process, eliminating operator errors, enhancing measurement accuracy, and optimizing test duration. Developed by YKMTEST, this system is equipped with a high-precision linear drive mechanism, digital force control, an automatic needle-lowering system, and a touchscreen control unit. During testing, the penetration depth of the needle into the sample is measured with high precision, and the results are recorded digitally. Each penetration cycle is automatically repeated at specified time intervals, allowing the device to monitor the hardening behavior of the sample in real time. The initial and final setting times are automatically determined based on the needle penetration depth and displayed graphically on the screen. The 7-inch color touchscreen allows the user to easily set test parameters, view results in real time, and save data at the end of the test. For high repeatability and measurement precision, the Automatic Vicat Apparatus uses a step-motor-controlled needle-lowering unit. The system detects instantaneous force changes when the needle contacts the sample surface and automatically stops the movement, ensuring the same penetration force is applied in every measurement. Needle penetration depth is measured via a digital linear encoder with 0.01 mm resolution. Recorded values are plotted against time, providing a visual representation of the cement hydration process. The device body is made of electrostatically powder-coated steel, offering durability against deformation and moisture during long-term laboratory use.
