Compressometer-Extensometer is a high-accuracy measurement assembly designed to monitor both longitudinal and lateral strain in concrete cylinder specimens for the determination of modulus of elasticity and Poisson’s ratio. Developed for professional materials testing laboratories, the system ensures repeatable, true axial strain measurements when used with automatic compression testing frames.

Rigid yet lightweight yoke frames seat concentrically around the specimen through precision contact points. This design maintains axial fidelity, prevents slippage during loading, and ensures stable positioning throughout the test. The architecture emphasizes fast setup and safe operation, allowing efficient integration into routine compression testing workflows.

The standard compressometer frame incorporates a dual-displacement sensor arrangement positioned symmetrically on opposite sides of the specimen. An averaging bridge compensates for minor eccentricities or buckling effects, enabling accurate measurement of true axial strain. For lateral strain measurement, the circumferential extensometer applies constant and uniform pressure around the specimen using a spring-preload mechanism. This configuration ensures reliable measurement of transverse deformation and enables direct calculation of Poisson’s ratio.

The system is fully compatible with common concrete cylinder sizes, including 100×200 mm and 150×300 mm specimens. Measurements can be performed using high-resolution linear transducers or precision dial gauges, depending on laboratory preference. The device interfaces directly with data-acquisition systems, benchtop recorders, and testing software through analog or digital signal outputs.

Compressometer-Extensometer operates in compliance with ASTM C469 loading-rate and geometric requirements, ensuring that modulus of elasticity and Poisson’s ratio values are calculated accurately within the stable, pre-failure region of the stress–strain curve. An optional wooden carrying and storage case is available for safe transport and protection when not in use.
