La loro struttura a pareti sottili riduce al minimo il disturbo della densit\u00e0 naturale del terreno e del contenuto di umidit\u00e0 durante il campionamento. Ci\u00f2 garantisce che le prove di laboratorio, quali consolidamento, resistenza al taglio e alla compressione, forniscano risultati che rappresentano fedelmente le condizioni del terreno in situ. I tubi Shelby sono realizzati in acciaio inossidabile o in acciai legati speciali su richiesta. Il loro bordo tagliente consente una facile penetrazione nel terreno.
