Un tubo di livello graduato e trasparente (tubo manometrico) \u00e8 collegato alla parte superiore della cella per monitorare il livello dell'acqua. All'inizio della prova, l'acqua viene lasciata fluire da una prevalenza iniziale h_1 attraverso il campione di terreno e scaricata attraverso una valvola alla base della cella. Dopo un intervallo di tempo misurato, viene registrata la prevalenza d'acqua h_2. La conducibilit\u00e0 idraulica (k) viene quindi calcolata in base a questi valori di prevalenza e al tempo trascorso, seguendo la teoria standard della permeabilit\u00e0 a caduta.
