Poich\u00e9 il contenuto organico pu\u00f2 influire negativamente sul processo di idratazione del cemento, il risultato del test pu\u00f2 determinare direttamente l'idoneit\u00e0 del materiale per le miscele di calcestruzzo. Questo test \u00e8 definito nelle norme TS EN 1744-1 e ASTM C40. Durante il test, un campione di aggregato fine viene mescolato con una soluzione di idrossido di sodio (NaOH) 3% e lasciato riposare per un determinato periodo. Il colore della soluzione risultante viene confrontato con i colori standard della Scala dei colori di riferimento. Se il colore ottenuto \u00e8 pi\u00f9 scuro di quello di riferimento, si ritiene che il campione contenga materia organica. La scala cromatica di riferimento \u00e8 costituita da colori stabili preparati in tubi di plexiglass resistenti.
